Non-motorized:
Chain pull (standard) or spring-loaded (~$100 upgrade)

Batteries last 6-12 months, easy to recharge (~$270-$520 upgrade)
Hard-wired motor:
Set-and-forget, quietest ($250-$500 upgrade + cost of electrician)
Roller shades can vary in style dramatically. Sheers, opaques, solar screens, blackout, patterned, and colored fabrics are all options. You’ll also choose a cover for the roll and some other hardware choices. What that means — you’ll be able to find something that matches your style.
Patio shade fabric options come in different densities, meaning they’ll let different amounts of light through. Theres no difference in price for each style.
90% dense:
Best for maximizing a view.
95-97% dense:
Most common option. Good visibility, good glare reduction, good heat reduction.
To maximize privacy outside choose a lighter fabric with a higher density. There are no perfectly private fabrics for outside, but you can always get some lights to shine on the outside of the shades to get you to 100% privacy.

Motors aren’t always necessary, but almost always make the shade more usable and better looking.
Pros:
Easy up and down, integrates with smart home tech and wind sensors, your arms won’t get tired raising and lowering the shade. Better than manual options for older people or 3+ shades.
Cons:
Price. A motor can be anywhere from $500-$900 per shade based on size and tech involved, so it can be a hefty sum. In some cases, a cord will be exposed along your wall to the plug, so hiring an electrician could be necessary.
Center Tilt:
Louvers are connected by a vertical bar in the front center.
Hidden Tilt:
Louvers are connected by a vertical bar on the back of the shutter and justified to one side so its not visible from most angles.
Invisible Tilt:
Louvers are connected via gears at the axis points in the frame. Completely hidden.
There are 3 shutter louver sizes.
2.5″ – Best for very small windows.
3.5″ – Most popular by far.
