French Door Retractable Screens in Draper
French doors are one of the best features in a Draper home. They open up a kitchen to a back patio, frame a view of the Wasatch foothills, and let the dry mountain air move through the house on a summer evening. The trade-off is that the second you swing them open, you’re inviting in every gnat, wasp, and mosquito drifting up from the Jordan River Parkway.
That’s where French door retractable screens come in.
At Sunpeak Screens & Shades, we install custom-fit retractable screens for French doors across Draper, from the neighborhoods near Draper Peaks to the homes tucked up against South Mountain. The screens disappear into a slim housing when you don’t need them, then pull across smoothly when the bugs come out.

Why Draper Homeowners Choose Retractable Screens for French Doors
A standard fixed screen door doesn’t work on French doors. You’d be blocking half of what makes the doors special in the first place — the wide opening, the symmetry, the unobstructed view out toward the Wasatch.
Retractable screens solve that. When they’re not in use, they roll back into a discreet side housing that blends into the door frame. Pull them across and you’ve got full bug protection without giving up the look of your French doors.
Draper Homes Especially Benefit Because
- Summer evenings bring bugs off the foothills and waterways. Even up at higher elevations near Suncrest, mosquitoes and gnats find their way to lit patios.
- Canyon winds shift fast. Retractable screens with quality tracks won’t flap or pull loose the way cheap pop-in screens do.
- UV is brutal here. Our screen mesh options include solar-grade fabrics that cut glare and heat coming through the doors, not just bugs.
- Dust and pollen drift in constantly. A good screen filters out a surprising amount of what blows in from open desert ground.

How Our French Door Retractable Screens Work
The system is simple. A slim housing mounts on the side jamb of your French doors. Inside that housing is a spring-loaded screen on a horizontal track. You grab the handle, pull the screen across the opening, and it latches in place at the opposite jamb. When you’re done, you guide it back and it retracts into the housing — out of sight.
For a pair of French doors, we typically install two screens, one pulling from each side, meeting in the middle. That way both doors stay fully functional and either one can be used independently.
We Handle
- Single French doors — one retractable screen across the opening
- Double French doors — two screens meeting in the center with a magnetic latch
- Tall or oversized doors — custom housings sized to the opening, including 8-foot and taller doors common in newer Draper builds
- Out-swing or in-swing configurations — the screen housing is positioned to clear the door swing
If you also have a single exterior door you want screened — a side entry, mudroom door, or basement walkout — we can do those at the same visit.
Built for Draper's Climate
Draper sits at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, right where the valley floor meets the Wasatch foothills. That position means real weather: intense afternoon sun in the summer, dry desert air, sudden canyon gusts coming down from Bell Canyon and Corner Canyon, and big temperature swings between day and night.
Cheap retractable screens don’t survive this. The mesh stretches, the springs lose tension, and the housings warp. Everything we install is built for Utah’s outdoor conditions:
- Heavy-duty aluminum housings that won’t bow or fade in direct UV
- Stainless steel components in the tracks and latches so they don’t corrode or seize up in dry, dusty conditions
- Multiple mesh options — standard insect mesh, tighter no-see-um mesh for the gnat season near the Jordan River, and solar mesh that blocks 80%+ of UV
- Wind-rated tracks that hold the screen in place during the gusts that roll off the canyons
What Installation Looks Like
Most French door retractable screen installs in Draper take a single visit.
Here’s How It Goes
- In-home measurement. We come out, take precise measurements of your French door opening, and confirm the swing direction, frame depth, and any trim details that affect the install.
- Mesh and color selection. You pick the mesh type and the housing color. We carry standard whites and bronzes plus custom color matches if your trim is something specific.
- Custom build. Your screens are built to the exact dimensions of your opening. No off-the-shelf “close enough” sizing.
- Professional install. Our installer mounts the housings, sets the tracks, tensions the springs, and tests the operation. Most French door installs are done in a couple of hours.
- Walkthrough. Before we leave, we show you how to operate them, how to clean the mesh, and what to do if anything ever needs adjustment.
Why Draper Homeowners Pick Sunpeak
We’re a local Utah company. We know what Wasatch weather does to outdoor products, and we know what holds up. That’s why we don’t carry the bargain-bin retractable screens you’ll find online — we’ve seen too many of them fail within a season or two of Draper sun.
What We Focus On
- Precision measurements so the screens fit the opening exactly, with no gaps for bugs to slip through
- Quality installation by experienced installers who do this every day, not handymen subcontracted out
- Durable materials built for Utah weather — the same gear we’d put on our own homes
- A real warranty backed by a company you can actually call
We also install retractable screens specifically designed for French doors as a specialty, not as an afterthought. The hardware, the mesh tension, the housing design — all of it is dialed in for the unique geometry of French door openings.
